New Stryker prototype on public display for the first time
The Prototype Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle, known as the Dragoon, was put on public display for the first time Oct. 27 at General Dynamics Land Systems in Sterling Heights.
This is the first of eight prototype vehicles upgraded with lethal capabilities to address an emerging capability gap in the European theater of operations, according to a media release.
It is important to remember the genesis of this event, said General Daniel Allyn, U.S. Army vice chief of staff. Back in 2015, after Russia invaded Ukraine, Army leaders in Europe identified a capability gap that threatened our forces in theater.
The Russians, it turns out, had upgraded and fielded significant capability while we were engaged in Iraq and Afghanistan and, in the face of prospective conflict, U.S. Army leaders realized that existing Stryker weaponry places our force at risk.
