REAL American heroes like Dick Cheney, Rush Limbaugh, Paul Ryan, George Bush, Paul Wolfowitz and everybody named Kristol, understood that the highest form of patriotism is to preserve yourself from nasty experiences so that you can retain the courage to send others to their deaths.

As Rumsfeld pointed out, the draftees in Vietnam "added very little value, really," to the war effort. I can attest to that. My 1st Cav infantry company was about 75% draftees--and probably 100% of those below the rank of E-6, including, of course, me. That must be why we "lost" the war.

Anyway, combat veterans are pretty much used up and damaged goods by the time they get out of uniform, and are of no further use to the Empire. Why should we spend good money giving free medical care to people who were stupid enough to either get drafted (in the old days) or volunteer for maiming in war?

Ryan sees things clearly. Spending money on veterans that could go for tax cuts to the wealthy is a pure waste of resources.
