Wounded Warrior Project Fires Top Two Executives

Amid Reports of Lavish Spending.

The top two executives at the prominent veterans charity Wounded Warrior Project have been fired amid allegations of extravagant spending on themselves and their employees.

The charity, one of the largest in the nation for veterans, has been mired in controversy since January, when a CBS News investigation found many of its donations were going toward employees: $26 million on company conferences in 2014 alone, according to CBS News.

Of the millions of dollars in donations received each year by Wounded Warrior Project, just 54 to 60 percent actually goes to vets, CBS News reported. The rest goes to overhead — air travel, luxury resorts, and over-the-top parties. Other veterans charities have overhead costs that don't exceed 10 or 15 percent, CBS said.

1. A lot of bad press surrounds the wounded warrior project, but they do some good

A relative of mine receives about $7,000 per month to live in an assisted living community from the wounded warrior project. He is 30 and was blown up by a car bomb on the first day of Ramadan in 2004 and he has severe brain damage. The VA won't pay for the program that he is a part of.

The VA will make accommodations for him to live at home, but to live in a semi-independent assisted living facility away from his parents is not within the VA's scope of coverage. Undoubtedly his quality of life is much better in this assisted living community.

I'm angry at the waste within the organization, but they do help some people rather signicantly.
