(37,457 posts)This punk is begging to be bagged by the US Postal Inspector's office. Totally off topic, but I reported a theft of my money via postal mail years ago. It was an ebay auction. To my knowledge, they have never caught the person. I'm sure a $200 theft ranks pretty low on their radar.
dflprincess
(28,075 posts)the contents were only worth about $100. I did report to the local post office though, without a witness there was nothing to do about it - but they did tell me its a $10,000 fine even for something with such a small value.
So if they can figure it out who did it, they may think it's worth it.
steve2470
(37,457 posts)The culprit was an ebay user who probably used a fake throwaway email address and other nefarious means. I'd be shocked if they catch the culprit after so many years.

"piss off" ...not fit to say in any forum or group
You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Fri Sep 11, 2015, 12:35 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.
Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Someone has sent a letter to the home of a DU member. Not once, but now twice! To the home she shares with her small children. This person is clearly an idiot. How much so, we don't know yet. Will he or she show up on her doorstep? Is this just a stupid prank? Or, a true sicko. The AA group is hurt, angry, concerned. Their friends and allies are concerned. Hell, even some of their enemies are concerned. Do you really want to focus on the words, "piss off", right now? Really??? Should we stop and worry about this. Really??? Priorities, people!!!
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: The person this post was directed to should, indeed, piss off.
Juror #3 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: You mean you're not impressed by this well thought out counter argument?
Juror #4 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Normally, it might be worth a hide but not in this case. The person it's directed to actually does need to do this.
Juror #6 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Meh. This is pretty mild imho.
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given

(23,664 posts)I can't express how pissed off I am about his actions and the fact that he claims to be a supporter of Senator Sanders, because if I did, I would probably be tombstone here.
However, unless there is something more explicit in his second letter that I haven't yet read, I don't think the "threats" he made to Bravenak in the first letter rose to the level of a crime. The tone was intimidating and the fact that he went to the trouble of finding her mailing address is disturbing, but all he really threatened to do was alert on her posts when she returns to DU.
It bothers me that anyone on an online forum has to suffer an invasion of their privacy, and particularly when it happens to somebody like Bravenak, whom I often disagree with but consider a class human being.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,674 posts)knew that if he had posted that message on DU he'd have been removed or at least given a long time-out. But for whatever warped reason, known only to him, he just felt he had to get his nasty message to Bravenak, so somehow he figured out who she was and where she lived (I'm told this is possible if a person has a presence on other social media and the stalker is obsessed enough to follow the electronic breadcrumbs) and sent her his shitty message via USPS.
I don't understand why anyone would care that intensely about what a total stranger says on an Internet message board, but Bravenak sure doesn't deserve to be stalked and intimidated like that. I don't care what she might have said - if "Mr. Citizen" didn't like it he could have just taken a deep breath, turned off the computer and gone for a walk.

And the return address was the actual target. When the mail service goes to return it as undelivered, they send it to the return address. Super creep thought they were being clever, except USPS marks the stamp at the point of origin - in this case zip code 335xx, Florida.

(6,810 posts)This is different, of course, because the asshole mailed the letters from Florida, whereas bravenak lives in Alaska. If she were faking, she'd have to go through more effort than just mailing herself. No, this looks to be quite real from where I'm sitting. Sending unwanted, frightening, or obscene emails, text messages, or instant messages (IMs)
Harassing or threatening someone in a chat room
Posting improper messages on a message board
