I missed an opportunity to chat with Senator Sanadors regarding his supporters

*********************** FOR THE AFRICAN AMERICAN GROUP ONLY ***************************************

I just missed an opportunity to talk to Senator Bernie Sanders for brunch with Bernie on Thom Hartman. I am an undecided voter for the first time in my life. I wanted to address to the Senator some concerns about how his supporters are attacking black people who support the Black Lives Matter movement. I didn't get a chance to get on the air with him and Danielle god bless her tried to get me to stay on to talk to Thom Hartman about it. I supposed I could have but I wanted to bring it to Senator Sander's attention personally. Maybe I made a mistake with that, maybe I didn't but I am going to keep trying to reach out to the Senator and let him know that his supporters are not doing him any favors by silencing our voice. Anyway I got to get back to work, these novels are not going to write themselves. Ciao for now

knows everything you could possibly tell him. With all the criticism his supporters have been generating, there's no way he couldn't know. Thom Hartmann already knows too and has personally called these people out already -- loudly.

Hopefully you'll get another shot to make your voice heard.

2. I would like to see a thread here in AfAm titled as follows:
Fri Sep 25, 2015, 02:01 PM
Sep 2015
"Are you willing to vote for Bernie if he is the candidate, if Hillary isnt, and if not what has to happen to change your mind?"

I think the answers AfAm would give to this question would be informative to Bernie supporters.

Most on this board will argue with you, give you shit, as we know, but some Bernie supporters wont and Bernie himself and his staff sure wont.

They read DU....

5. What I see is black Sanders supporters who have left this board because of the behavior of white one
Fri Sep 25, 2015, 07:51 PM
Sep 2015

I see black Hillary/O'malley/undecided supporters who are attacked right and left. I see white Hillary supporters who have been driven off. I see Hispanic posters mocked too.

We all know that the AA forum is constantly monitored. And judging by the number of times hosts from a particular forum are linking to posts in this one or attacking regular posters in this forum, it's pretty clear that they don't have much to occupy their time. Enthusiasm lasts only so long, particularly when the person you are alienating the entire WORLD for is stuck in the mid to high 20s for national support and has been for months.

If you dropped a dime in the middle of GDP right now, it would echo for a week. And yet, these folks are STILL MISERABLE. They are still chasing after us in this forum, they are still attacking EVERYONE, they are still shouting down every endorsement given in support of other candidates and every poll that shows their candidate losing by a Kentucky mile. And FYI -- that would be ALOT of polls.

So for me, if Bernie is the candidate I would vote for him. Alot less enthusiastically than before but he would get my vote. But here on DU, I find myself supporting him alot less than I would and that is due 100% to the behavior of his supporters, both here, on Twitter and all over the Internet. His silence on all of this though is wildly disconcerting and I truly don't understand why he hasn't said anything.

you want. I know this forum is monitored. And it is now apparently ever so "innnnnnteresting" that we have three white hosts.

Because a black forum on a Dem web site with white hosts, a black forum on a DEMOCRATIC web site that has white people who actually support black people and black causes is so unusual.

And these people think that they are our allies, JAG. You could put their hand on a stack of bibles and they'd swear up and down that they are our allies when most of us wouldn't touch them with a 20 foot pole put in somebody else's hand.

8. There is an additional reason for those things though
Sat Sep 26, 2015, 09:44 AM
Sep 2015

This was one of the last groups to be overrun by the...insanity, that has swept through DU.
I'm a white guy who rarely (perhaps never posted) here before, and didn't often come in here
either (though, those statements are true of 90% of DU for me). Not that I was avoiding it,
or that I was not interested in the concerns here, or that I am here to abuse it. I just really
never spent much time on DU at all honestly, and that was mostly to view a handful of top
pages. I think a lot of people retreated into various groups, and this is one I came to. Frankly
though, it's been a pretty positive experience for me to be in here reading these things and
keeping it all in mind.
There are a lot of interlopers here, but there are also a lot of benign people, well meaning
people, and supportive people (I never liked "allies." I'd never be presumptive enough to
say ally...because allies are in the thick of what you're in...experiencing it, and as a white
guy, I can't ever really be in that position).

I might not even be addressing what you're talking about, actually, I'm a little confused by what
you refer to, now that I read it again. I guess I'm not all that up to date on going-on's around
DU lately though. Actually, when it come to DU lately...hey, can I borrow one of those 20
foot poles?

black issues that didn't post here. Hell, even some black posters didn't post in this forum. I just think because it was so small on DU2 it just wasn't on alot of people's radar. But man, we had sooo much fun on DU2 even though there weren't many of us.

Since the AA forum on DU3 is open to everyone and not just those with donor stars, our numbers have increased significantly. DU3 (the version we're on now) has been around probably 3 or 4 years now. And it's been great. Until recently.

Up until the last 4-5 months, we've had maybe 6 people on our block list. Since a certain candidate for president declared and since alot of black people have been less than enthusiastic about his campaign, we have suddenly been deluged with people who are suddenly so very, very INNNTERESTED in the AA forum and feel the need to flock here. But not to engage, to browbeat and "school" us on why a certain person is the one we should be supporting.

It really could not be more obvious, more transparent and more pathetic. Their rage that black folks aren't just falling in line is palpable. That block list that went from 5 or 6 for three years is now almost at 40 over just a few months. Black posters have been chased around and in several cases, hounded off this board, but not before they were accused of not actually being black, being black but only "caring about rich black people" or not being "representative" of black people. Like I said, that rage was PALPABLE.

So I know that alot of DUers have not posted here because they didn't know we existed or we just weren't on their radar. And like you said, I've seen plenty of good, decent DUers that didn't post here because they felt they didn't have any business doing so because they weren't black which goes against the whole point of this web site and this forum. But having seen what happens when the AA forum does get on the radar of DUers who don't actually care about our issues and don't give a damn about us beyond having us join their cheering squad for a certain candidate for president, I'd give anything to go back to those days of not being alot of people's radar and having these people leave us the fuck alone.

I hate to be cynical, but I think on some level the ... exclusion (??) - not the best word, perhaps "disregard" is better -- of voters of color by the Sanders camp is calculated, if not deliberate. There is no small percentage of gun enthusiasts and libertarians who regard Sanders as preferable to, say, Jeb!, and would vote for Sanders if it came down to a Jeb v. Bernie contest. That said, these very people who constitute a certain, if not core, but supporting pillar, of his campaign may well become less enthusiastic if the crowds become "too" colorful.

I think their strategy is to play the "Where the hell else you gonna go?" card. In short, should Sanders by some oddball quirk (and it would have to be that, I just don't think he has the support of the party at all) get the nomination, it is at THAT point that the Olive Branch (along with that "What the hell else you gonna do--vote for that GOP assclown?" message) will be extended to those of us who feel marginalized by the Sanders campaign.

Right now, they think this shit is working for them, which is why they play it like they do. They're getting big white crowds of smug people bellowing, and that's a good look for them to garner a little publicity, even if they can't grow that support in key battleground states. Cheering pale throngs in states that will go red in the general just don't help--save to garner a little press. If you can't move 'em in the blue and battleground states, you aren't a winner.

They'll pivot eventually ("Oh, look--BLACK people!! What can we do for YOU, hmmm?&quot --but I think they've got too many white people on their executive staff, and they don't realize they've maybe, for some folks, already waited too long. Too many deep cuts, too many insults, too many purposeful comments to disregard real pain, particularly WRT #BLM issues, too many "back of the hand" plays.

I think a lot of people --not just of color, but women of all shades and people with some degree of political sophistication and nuance--just won't stand in line for four hours to vote for this guy--and we know that, in some neighborhoods, that's what it takes--sometimes even longer. I think a lot of people won't fill their gas tank and drive people back and forth to the polls all day. I think a lot of people won't go round to the shut ins and help them with the absentee voter process. Why? Because the effect will be the same. A candidate who can't get a single member of Congress to say "I endorse you" is not going to be an effective cheerleader for legislation OR appropriations. As we all know, appropriations start in the House--and with the resignation of the Weeping Boner, the House is going to tilt to the RIGHT--the conservatives, in effect, have won, and have driven off the orange drunkard. "President Sanders" isn't going to get a dime out of that crew. All of those Pie in the Sky ideas he's been throwing around? Those rich people won't stand still while he picks their pockets. There won't be any reallocation of defense money to pay for "free college" or any of his other pipe dreams. He'll have no choice but to throw those under the bus. Welcome to Gridlock. Again.

I think what many Democrats will choose to do is throw their money and effort into trying to take back Congress, and let the GOP have the Presidency. If that happens, it will be a long, miserable eight years out in the wilderness for people who used to congregate here regularly. This place is like a ghost town, to the point where, apparently, some of the most vociferous Bernie prizefighters are wandering around the internet looking for places where the disaffected have landed, in order to harass them from afar.

I guess expecting those guys to "Get a life" is too much to hope for, but it does speak to the shortage of ideas in their idol's campaign, that a "Lord of the Flies" hunt-em-down tactic seems like a good idea.

I don't know why anyone still comes here.

I think a lot of people --not just of color, but women of all shades and people with some degree of political sophistication and nuance--just won't stand in line for four hours to vote for this guy

I am pretty uninspired by all of the Dem candidates, to be honest. I think we have all been spoiled rotten by Obama. If there was a way I could vote for him a third time, I'd wait four hours to vote for him. I sure as hell would.

A candidate who can't get a single member of Congress to say "I endorse you" is not going to be an effective cheerleader for legislation OR appropriations.

His fans ignore that point at every call. Even if Sanders racked up every Congressional endorsement given to Dems at this point, would he be able go past Hillary?? When even the members of the CBC and Progressive Caucus don't endorse you, what exactly does that mean?? Doesn't that mean something to these people?? This whole "but the people support him!" doesn't seem to be born out in polls beyond New Hampshire.

with the resignation of the Weeping Boner

Anybody else think it's weird that he resigned just HOURS after meeting the Pope???!! Do you think the Pope got to him?? I am imagining that scene with Galadriel in Lord of the Rings when she gets in Frodo's head when they first meet in Lothlorien.

Those rich people won't stand still while he picks their pockets. There won't be any reallocation of defense money to pay for "free college" or any of his other pipe dreams. He'll have no choice but to throw those under the bus.

If those rich people had any sense of integrity, that's exactly what they'd do. And they'd chip in themselves to help him pay for free college. But we know that's not going to happen.

I guess expecting those guys to "Get a life" is too much to hope for, but it does speak to the shortage of ideas in their idol's campaign, that a "Lord of the Flies" hunt-em-down tactic seems like a good idea.

Yep, I agree completely on this bit. They couldn't get black folks on board so we've been chased around and hounded for months. And now he's added Cornell to the mix. I have no doubt that will be front and center on the epitaph of this campaign.

The ugliness and vitriol, it's just too much. It's like this up in here:

Way too acrimonious for me. Worst crime, none of the conversation is even smart anymore. I don't mind differences of opinion, but I can't abide mindless, repetitive propaganda.

I'll hide out here and in a few other spots now and again, but the thrill is totally gone...
