And some Bernie Sanders fanboy wants to join in coalition with them?
HELL NO!
Now let me get back to celebrating a DOMINANT performance by my Michigan Wolverines today.
Thank you for your time.

(14,733 posts)I knew someone would be along to link him to Sanders somehow.
You might notice that just as many Sanders supporters were in the comments arguing against that asinine diary as anyone else.
Chitown Kev
(2,197 posts)Sanders supporters in that diary just as you did; I am not blind.
But there were ALSO a few Sanders supporters agreeing with him...and he tried to argue me down.

(2,197 posts)if the majority of Sanders voters wanted him to do that...he's a politician just like everyone else...need I refer back to his 2014 comments from NPR about working-class white voters.
Here's what I don't understand...the Obama coalition has won two national elections; it is a proven coalition.
True enough, there will be no Obama there to solidify that coalition but it would seem to me that you do the best that you can to put it back together...of cobble together some votes from somewhere else.
Erich Bloodaxe BSN
(14,733 posts)he'd lose 98% of his support. Because it's not an either/or. We want both, we're not throwing anyone to the wolves as a trade.

(2,197 posts)of course, some other people in some (ahem!) other places might think that this a smear, I suppose...as if I don't have the right to evaluate Sanders's on-the-record statements because "I don't know Bernie"

(89,247 posts)Haters. they hate the Clintons and Obama . they hate the "new" democratic party dominated by minorities . if not Sanders they would have got Behind someone else.
if the poster you are referring to is the same one i'm thinking of many of these types had issues with the democratic party before Sanders.
remember they were backing anthony Weiner and claiming the establishment was opposed to him while ignoring his close ties to the clintons, schumer and others they hate. weiner was most popular among black, jewish and other minorities in NYC . the same ones who were the obama coalition.
now that Weiner has criticized Sanders they oppose him while Corey BOoker who they wanted to purge from the party was posted in a positive way because he defended Sanders.

(2,197 posts)whatever his electorate and his coalition wants him to do...if religious conservatives were to join in a coalition at the expense of minority voters and they were able to get Sanders elected, then...yes, they would have some influence on policy...as people have pointed out, there has been some change with some religious conservatives (esp. on environmental issues) and religious conservatives were willing, at one time, to work with the Obama Administration on immigration issues so...I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to it on an issue-by-issue basis...but I am VERY far from what the OP on that thread was rationalizing.

(47,209 posts)I sure as hell didn't make the link- the OP did.
It should be every vocal Sanders supporter shutting that bullshit down, but all the loudest ones - particularly those who were so angry at BLM - and are conspicuously silent. Many are angry at the Dem base and hate the Dem party period.
Sadly crossing the aisle for republican votes is a thing they're counting on. I'd love to know exactly how that is going to work.

(47,209 posts)There are a bunch of vague separation of church and state replies and the inevitable call for "some people" to get thicker skin.
I am SHOCKED. After BLM I guess POC are as sidelined as us women were from day one. We are invisible to them.

(24,544 posts)And its usually something from one of our blocked list complaining about their treatment here ie not being the "right" kind of person for the AA forum and that's why s/he got blocked. Of course it never, EVER has anything to with any nasty, bizarrely rage-filled or patronizing posts that are twice as full of venom and bile as they are anything even remotely interesting or pleasant that the person whining may have spewed here. And the fact that the blockings usually came after 2,3,4 warnings never, ever factors into the pity parties.
So, yeah. I'll have to take your word for what's going on over there. Have no interest in checking myself.

and it's mostly because of social issues.
the dem senate candidate couldn't even bring herself to say she voted for a black guy.

what his electoral coalition will or won't allow.
When Obama wanted to work with the Religious Right on immigration reform, there were some on the Religious Right that were dead set against the RR doing ANYTHING with Obama and some LGBT's (already stung by the Rick Warren/inauguration fiasco) were dead set against it as well.
Politics makes for strange bedfellows sometimes.

Congrats to your Michigan Wolverines on an impressive win! I'm a die-hard Wisconsin Badger though, so I can't really say that I was rooting for them.

(31,849 posts)I had a cousin that attended U of Mich ... every Thanksgiving Weekend, the car keys were locked away and the Beer, BBQ and betting flowed. We, rarely, saw the end of the game; but, we always had a good time watching it!

(23,340 posts)I was visiting him when I saw a student newspaper. There was a picture in this paper of some very foolish or brave Michigan students at an Ohio State game in Columbus holding up flash cards, one letter per student that spelled out "FUCK OHIO STATE".
I was impressed.

(2,197 posts)When the Wolverines play in Columbus, there's always all sorts of travel tips to ensure Wolverine safety in enemy territory, lol.
The nice thing about this year is it feels so much like old times...it seems as if the Big 10 East (ugh!) will be decided in Ann Arbor and Columbus (Michigan plays the Spartans and the Buckeyes in Ann Arbor and the Buckeyes play the Spartans in Columbus).
Ideally, Toledo (which is much closer to Ann Arbor than Columbus) should be the site of the Michigan-Ohio State game, I mean since that's where this whole thing started!

(31,849 posts)They will ask what teams I support?
That concept is/was completely foreign to me ... being born in Ohio, the answer HAS to be the Browns (and, anybody playing against the B-More Ravens ... Rest Restlessly, Art Modell), the Indians and the Buckeyes. Period. End of discussion ... unless you live South of Columbus, then it's the Bengals, the Reds and the Buckeyes!
I guess it's a Midwest thing.

(23,340 posts)Here in the DC area there is strong support for the Redskins, and many contrarians supporting the Dallas Cowboys.
And many Ravens supporters, and Steeler fans, as most of Pennsylvania comes here looking for work. And then there is my neighbor who grew up near Green Bay, and another one who matriculated in East Lansing and hangs out his flag for every game.
and the one who went to Notre Dame ...
