We Charge Genocide

I found a most interesting collection of books this weekend. Many of the books were on racism in America, black radical theory, etc. One is titled "We Charge Genocide." I sat it in the interesting pile and finished the cursory look at all the titles. I was amazed when I went back and took a closer look at it.

It is a petition submitted to the UN in 1951 that the US government was engaging in genocide against the Negro people. Using the definitions in the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, the petitions laid out their argument by documenting Senators and Governors who were openly racist and hostile against African-Americans. It painfully lists pages upon pages of lynchings, uncharged or acquitted murders and killings by police officers.

I had never heard of this petition until opening this book.

Here is the wikipedia entry on the petition: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/We_Charge_Genocide

And here is the Introduction of the petition: http://www.blackpast.org/?q=we-charge-genocide-historic-petition-united-nations-relief-crime-united-states-government-against

I think there is even more reason for such a petition now. Warpy Aug 2013 #1

I remain convinced that the War on Drugs is being fought primarily to keep young black men from benefiting fully from the Civil Rights Act.

Put 'em in prison for a couple of years on possession charges and you'll destroy their ability to make a living from then on.
