(24,544 posts)Between this foolishness, the idiot at Washington Post that said that mainstream Americans must minimize their "gag reflex" at the sight of a multi-racial family such as Bill de Blasio's (as well as the non-stop fixation on that family's hair), these folks look even more stupid and out of touch than usual.
Colbert King at the Washington Post wrote about it http://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/colbert-king-coverage-of-de-blasio-family-is-strangely-superficial/2013/11/15/c7b8fc90-4d6f-11e3-9890-a1e0997fb0c0_story.html
This one is my favorite
The sooner people of color take over the American media (and I noted that's already starting to happen with YouTube -- most of the most popular folks on there are people of color, see Gangnam Style video) the fucking better. So damn sick of the narrow and limited representations of people of color in the media.

As a guy, it might be out of place for me to say this, but it gets monotonous that every time when there is a Black woman on a commercial, she is almost always rocking an afro. It gives the impression that most Black women wear their hair like that and look like that, which is false. In RL, I don't even see too many wearing that style.
This is slightly off-topic, but another thing that I would add that has caught my attention is about how Latinos are portrayed in the media. The average Latino they show on TV tends to be light-skinned and maybe slightly darker than the average White person (such as some of the folks on Univision), but there are plenty of Afro-Latinos out there who are as dark as (or darker than) me, like Carmelo Anthony and Zoe Saldana. They seem to rarely get represented.

1. Put the race card in the deck.
2. See the 'other' - as the other.
3. Can't see the core humanity and human condition in this movie. Regardless of the race of the characters.
Just saying. . .
