It had to happen sometime.

I just finished Michael Connelly's Blood Work. It is a great story. I thought I was reading it for the 1st time. I read over 200 pages as though it was new to me and then something clicked. "That's familiar, am I having deja vu from a novel?" As I continued to read there were a few other things that told me I had read this book. At the end it was like I was remembering as I read. Really strange. This did not detract from my enjoyment of the book. I often reread books after a time because I see things in a different light or somethings stand out where before did not. One thing of interest is the brief mention of Michael Haller- the Lincoln Lawyer. He doesn't get any action in the story but his name is there. I like the way Connelly connects his various LA people together.

Last weekend a few friends and I went to Los Angeles. We took a morning bus tour of Hollywood area. I mentioned to the guide that I’d love to see places from the novels. He showed us Parker Center, the coffee shop downtown called The Pantry and we drove along Mulholland Drive and Laurel Canyon. For me it was a highlight of the trip!

and I think are getting better. When we moved to LA, reading them was a great way to learn about the city. Along with watching car chases of course...

Blood Work is before Terry dies- maybe 5 years prior.

I did that a couple of years backs when I first started doing these posts. It was winter, snowy, and it was the only book I had picked up on my weekly library hike. When I realized it was a repeat I felt like
So I started keeping a list of what I had read. I've kind of let that go now, though, and instead just keep a bunch of stuff on hand in case that happens again. Considering how much we read, it is kind of likely. And hey, Connelly books are good enough to read twice. Right?

Blood Work is a film adaptation of Michael Connelly's seventh novel, scripted by Brian Helgeland and released on 9 August 2002.

The film was directed by Clint Eastwood, who also portrayed FBI criminal profiler Terry McCaleb.

While Harry Bosch was investigating the murder of Howard Elias, he saw a bus stop with an advertisement for this movie, neatly connecting reality with fiction.

something new on each read, imo... some phrase, insight, clue that may have been glossed over or not understood first time around

I'm a big fan of Connelly and have most if not all of his books, he pays homage to Robert Crais in one (can't recall at this moment) to the detective Elvis Cole where they pull up to a 4-way stop and throw signs to each other... you wouldn't get it unless you'd read both authors...

Bosch and Holler are involved in at least 3 different books, maybe more?
I guess I'll need to reread a few ...

A little way into a novel I realize I've read it before, but cannot remember anything. It's weird, knowing it's a reread but everything being new again. Unlike when I knowingly reread a book.
