Awarded to Demon Copperhead, by Barbara Kingsolver, a masterful recasting of David Copperfield, narrated by an Appalachian boy whose wise, unwavering voice relates his encounters with poverty, addiction, institutional failures and moral collapse—and his efforts to conquer them.

Congrats to Ms. Kingsolver and I hope we all get a chance to read this one soon.

4. I love her work, but...

for some reason, that one didn't hit the same. It wasn't bad, just less intense than it could have/should have been given the subject, I think.

Demon Copperhead. Best book I've read in years. I also liked The Lacuna and Prodigal Summer.
