1. Seeing by Jose Saramago

Loved Blindness so thought it was time to read this.

Just finished 11/22/63. Was interesting.

2. The Hand That Trembles, by Kjell Eriksson (Sweden)

I'm pretty much addicted to Scandinavian crime fiction, so I go through the Fantastic Fiction site quite regularly and pick out an author whose books look interesting, then order everything they've written from my local library. This is the final Kjell Eriksson book of the four that are currently available in English.

These four have all been good, interesting stories. I like the protaganist - a female detective in Uppsala, Sweden - and the writing is solid with creative plots and compelling characters. Whenever I finish a series like this, I often feel a pang that I'm leaving behind people I've come to care about with whom I've enjoyed spending time.

I haven't figured out which author to try next. I'm on the waiting list for several new books from various authors whose series I've already gone through from the beginning - but I'm going to need something to tide me over while I wait!

3. The Girl with a Pearl Earring

By Tracy Chevalier. Maybe because it in the 1650's it seems austere and a bit cold. But I'm enjoying it.

4. Raven by Michael Murray.

I am just about finished with it now, and although this is not a book I would ever have read if it wasn't given to me by a friend, it was extremely fascinating. I usually don't do espionage books, or war books, this has a twist that had my jaw drop....and the premise is almost believable. I can't say more without giving it away, but I am still wondering if this book doesn't have more truth than history books.

I will say that I have not read a book with more spelling errors, grammar errors, or just plain missing words or phrases. I hope that the editor was fired.

5. The Joshua Stone

by James Barney. So far quite good.

Thank you for reviving this. I am not very likely to start a thread about a book I'm reading, especially as these days I'm averaging three to five books a week. I also like finding suggestions here.

7. Finished The Joshua Stone

and I'd recommend it to anyone who likes that sort of thing. I'll describe it as secret Nazi research collides with the modern terrorist/surveillance state. Fast action, fewer improbabilities than most of this genre. The best part is the author's quiz at the end about which parts are factual and which he's made up. I liked that a lot.

8. Now I'm reading The Preservationist

by Justin Kramon, and it's good. Also disturbing. So far I like it.

I'm reading Three Sisters by James D Doss. Five more Charlie Moon books and we are done. Fadedrose suggested them and we have enjoyed them. Sort of a cozy like.
