Comic Books
Related: About this forumToday was Free Comic Book Day
Our family spent FCBD at 4ColorFantasies in Rancho Cucamonga, where a shockingly high number of folks (seriously, I'm betting at least a thousand visitors to a little stripmall comic store) showed up to collect their shwag, ogle the cosplayers and Stormtrooper detachment, and buy original artwork by several artists who were sketching and signing away like mad. Sadly we never managed to be in the right place at the right time to get our pictures taken with Vader or his Stormtroopers, but it was still awesome to see them wandering about.
The crowds:
The line was a few hours long, so my dumb ass got sunburned, but we all had a blast, and the free comics were great. Archaia Publishing even put out a free hardback Mouseguard anthology. Add in the Serenity/Star Wars flipbook from Dark Horse and some DC reprints of recent classics along with a ton of kid-friendly books and you get One Happy Nerdfamily.
She never, ever looks at the camera. It's beyond predictable at this point.

(4,583 posts)I picked up Bad Medicine and the 2000AD digest. Bad Medicine looks interesting, but I don't think I can afford to add another title to my pull list.

(2,135 posts)and there was a line when I got there at about 9:30. Not a lot of people, but enough that there were about five waves of six people allowed in the store at once (it's kind of small and I shudder to think about what it would have been like with that crowd at the very cramped old location.)
They had a limit of five books per person w/ one copy each, so I snagged the Serenity/Star Wars flip comic (and liked the Serenity one better, so it went in the Serenity section of my library), the Buffy/Guild (Buffy vs. Xenomorph? AWESOME!), the Donald Duck Family book from Fantagraphics (love me some Carl Barks!) and the Mouse Guard/other Archaia (Spelling?) hardcover.
I was going to look for Punisher #85 while I was there, but I didn't want to hold up the others wanting to get in the store and bought some boards instead.
