Comic Books
Related: About this forumHi. Yes, I'm new here. Hope you don't mind me stopping by.
I used to read comics quite a lot. My favorites were the DC/Marvel crossover issues that were giant sized. Spiderman/Superman, Hulk/Batman, Teen Titans/X-Men. Ah, the days of my youth spent in other worlds thanks to comic books are barely able to be measured.
I gave up comics for the most part, around the time that Marvel changed the X-men (way back when). I fell out of love with the characters I had grown up with and never really went back.
To be sure, though, I still kept up with my crossovers. I just recently read the Avengers/Justice League. I liked the story, loved the art, and the characters.
Still, though, I just can't seem to fall back into my comic habits. That doesn't prevent me from being interested in what's going on in the lives of the characters I grew up with, though.

A great self-contained story, as you said.

(59,305 posts)I'd stick with graphic novels for a while, they are self contained stories until you feel you might take a stab at current comics. When I thought about getting back into monthly comics, I waited about 5 months because I didn't know if I really wanted to get back into the swing of things(trying to stay current), but the monthlys are okay, nothing super great but they are decent(almost all DC titles for me).
But to be honest, if you stay away from the current run of DC you really aren't missing anything cause they are putting them into graphic's anyway...If I new they were going to put them in graphic form after 7 or so issues I never would've started getting monthly titles...trying to stay current is very hard for me to do.
I do pick up some oldies though, I've pretty much picked up 500 comics I use to have (80s/90s superman/batman) so rereading stories from 25 years ago brings back some good memories. Also found the very first superman comic I bought when I was a youngster, heh...title only cost me a buck too.
