Silent Night 2020

SILENT NIGHT 2020
The last time we were afraid
It was loud
Airplanes crashing into steel and concrete
Makes noise.
Explosions. Roaring fire. Screams. Sirens.
Thousands together at once.
But in barely a day it was over.
The New Death, creeps in stillness
Kitty paws on carpet.
It silently seeps into you, and you cannot hear it coming.
A dying cell has no voice.
A few a thousand a million cells make not a sound.
You cannot scream when you cannot breathe.
When they first put the oxygen mask on you, you want to cry out
But the effort is too much
Then comes the tube down your throat and you want to scream
But silence is the only option.
As the days go by unmarked, you watch the dials and gauges noiselessly signal the end of you
A hundred. Two. Six Hundred. Eight. A thousand. More.
In silent suffocation.
Every day, relentless.
Separate and alone. Quietly. Still.
This is the whimper. Not the bang.
