I agree with Mazz, it's a bridge year. bluedigger May 2012 #2
I agree, too...there are serious problems with the organization joeybee12 May 2012 #6
How much of what's going on is actually his fault? Renew Deal May 2012 #3
While that is a fair question, it also begs the question: bluedigger May 2012 #4
Did the team get old? Auggie May 2012 #5

Valintine will be gone, after this season.

"As for Valentine, he is easily the most expendable of all "commodities," a 62-year-old manager on a two-year contract who had been out of the game for 10 years. Barring some sort of dramatic and unforeseen turnaround, is there any reason the Red Sox would bring him back next year? The Red Sox could have hired (potentially) a longer-term replacement in Dale Sveum, who at least would have fit the profile of what the organization was under the height of the Terry Francona era. Instead, they opted for a stopgap. Valentine subsequently feels like just another piece of rental furniture of a house full of them, which cannot help but make you wonder:

Maybe the Sox have a far bigger renovation in mind in the very near future."

How much of what went on last year was Francona's fault?

The biggest change management made was at the Manager position, but the team still sucks.

Did some free agent signings not pan out? Did Theo Epstein trade away too many prospects in years past?

This might be part of it too:

Disabled List

A. Bailey 60-day DL
A. Cook 15-day DL
C. Crawford 60-day DL
J. Ellsbury 15-day DL
B. Jenks 60-day DL
R. Kalish 60-day DL
J. Lackey 60-day DL
D. Matsuzaka 15-day DL
J. Repko 15-day DL
K. Youkilis 15-day DL

Cleveland interviewed Valentine when Wedge was fired. Valentine didn't do a stitch of homework on the club, while Acta had a good grasp of the roster. Valentine acted as if he couldn't care less. Not saying that's the case here, but you have to wonder if his heart is still in it.

they won't admit they made a mistake during the season. If the Sox don't win at least 90 games (which is looking increasingly unlikely), he'll be gone at the end of the season.
