Congrats to the Brit, but the American took silver...can't recall when that happened, if ever...the two are training partners!

(29,322 posts)since I just watched it on NBC? I guess someone could be taping it so there's that.
To the thread, I have no idea.

(1,434 posts)For a second there on the backstretch I thought Rupp would be good for the gold. I'm thrilled seeing him win that silver. First distance silver on the track for the US since '64. They both train under Alberto Salazar, a name longtime fans of the sport will recognize.
The slow race fast finish played right into Farah and Rupp's hands. The whole field should have known that.
Also, I watched the internet feed with the BBC commentary. It's generally been great but they really dropped the ball on Rupp. They were really surprised how well he was doing. He had the 3rd best PR in the field! They never mentioned his fierce kick despite closing the US Trials 5k in 52s.

(44,573 posts)The gold-medal Brit is Mo Farah, and Galen Rupp has given the U.S. its first medal in this event in 48 years.
Here's a shot of Rupp from the Olympic trials.
Gives me a good idea for a movie: White Men Can't Sprint. Uh, wait a second...

(1,434 posts)Taking the US Trials 5k from the man right behind him in the pic, one of all-time great 1500m runners, Bernard Lagat.
The Kenyans must be super burned to be shut out of the medals. Letting the race go slow was a huge mistake. I don't see how they possible let the 5k go this slow next weekend. Their only hope is to run the kicks out of Farah/Rupp before the last lap.

(3,829 posts)I think a silver in the 10K is much more impressive than a gold in most Olympic events. Track racing is far more competitive with far more participants worldwide than in most sports.
