Augusta National admits two women.....

one is Condoleezza Rice!!!

After three quarters of a century, women will be included on the membership rolls of Augusta National Golf Club, one of the most exclusive clubs in the world and the host of the Masters.

Augusta National Chairman Billy Payne announced Monday that former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and business executive Darla Moore will be the first female members of the club.
The news was first reported by the Associated Press.

"This is a joyous occasion as we enthusiastically welcome Secretary Condoleezza Rice and Darla Moore as members of Augusta National Golf Club," Payne said in a statement. "We are fortunate to consider many qualified candidates for membership at Augusta National. Consideration with regard to any candidate is deliberate, held in strict confidence and always takes place over an extended period of time. The process for Condoleezza and Darla was no different.

"These accomplished women share our passion for the game of golf and both are well known and respected by our membership. It will be a proud moment when we present Condoleezza and Darla their Green Jackets when the Club opens this fall.

"This is a significant and positive time in our Club's history and, on behalf of our membership, I wanted to take this opportunity to welcome them and all of our new members into the Augusta National family."

Rice, who served as secretary of state under George W. Bush, said in a statement she feels very fortunate to have "this opportunity to grow my love for this great game."

Against, she's a Repuke.

For, Nikki Asshat Haley removed her from the Board at the Univ of South Carolina, so maybe she's not crazy like that teabagging guv'nor.

As for Condoliar, nothing in favor of that war criminal.

wingnut, hate-filled philosophy of the GOP.

Of course, Augusta is not stupid--they got themselves a two-fer with Rice. Yes, I said that cynically, and I meant every word. It's a three-fer if you count gender/race/political leanings.

She'll fit right in.

People are starting to "get it" that even belonging to an exclusionary club is just not cool. It's only taken three quarters of a century with these clowns...

one of the worst-kept secrets here in the Bay Area is that Condi has bought a house near Stanford -- along with her longtime partner. Apparently all that's standing in the way is Prop H8.

Not sure Augusta thought they were breaking quite THAT many barriers.

4. That's old news--they had or have a mutual line of credit as well!

They both deny any personal relationship and maintain they are simply co-owners of a house. Whatever..!

The other owner is named Randy Bean, IIRC. I believe she is a liberal Dem and she used to work for Bill Moyers.

They've been referred to as Beans and Rice, or Rice and Beans...!

Now anyone woman can be a member at Augusta... as long as they have the money, the right connections and the "right" politics.

Personally, I think this may be one of the rare situations where, had the opposition not been so vocal, it may have happened sooner. I think the leadership at Augusta was more concerned with appearing to cave to public pressure than they were with allowing female members. I actually thought the first female member was going to be either Justice O'Connor or Elizabeth Dole.
