DU's NFL Football Picks is back for 2012.
What is the same from last year:
We play the spreads as published by www.footballpicks.com
I post them Thursday morning.
Picks are due by the first kick-off on Sunday -- usually 1:00 pm EST, 10 am PST.
We do not pick Thursday or Saturday games.
We keep track of our won/loss record and crown a winner after Week 17.
If you miss a game your won/loss record will be marked with an asterisk. Two games, two asterisks. It's not that hard to keep track.
Ties are ties. They do not count in standings.
Anyone on D.U. can participate.
Every player receives two bye weeks starting Week 1 and Ending Week 15 to account for personal matters, vacations, family emergencies, and general forgetfullness. The last two weeks are mandatory -- sitting on a lead is not cool. You can PM your picks to me before Thursday if necessary. Miss three weeks and I'll assume you've lost interest.
What is changing:
We're playing the eight most meaningful/interesting games each week. Monday and Sunday will always be included since most of us can watch them on national telecasts. We'll favor division matches, longtime rivalies, streaking teams, players of interest, toughest spreads, and group favorites, and will try to include every team at least once.
I'll pick the games but everyone is encouraged to suggest the best match-ups.
Winner of the previous week gets to choose one game of his or her choice.
No starting after Week 3. No more second tier. Latecomers are welcomed to post picks but won't be included in the season tally.
-----------------------------
JonLP24 has graciously agreed to keep tallies of our scores as he did in 2010 and 2009.
Let's have some fun. Week 1 begins Sunday September 9th. Spreads will be posted Thursday September 6th.
See you then.

PRETZEL
(3,245 posts)and everyone else.
Its alot of fun.
RagAss
(13,832 posts)RagAss
(13,832 posts)Can we eliminate the point spreads this year??. We are picking multiple games and the spread almost reduces things to flipping coins.
Auggie
(31,133 posts)We were going to drop the spreads a few years ago but more folks wanted to keep them.
It may be a bit easier this year since we're doing only eight of the best games a week. Spreads may be a little smaller and easier to choose.
But if the group wants to eliminate them it's okay with me.
BTW, I've flipped coins on several games. I think I'm ahead.
Goblinmonger
(22,340 posts)This is the only group I'm in that picks on the spread so it makes it a little different. Won't cry if they go, though.
RagAss
(13,832 posts)Will gladly play regardless of the spread.
JonLP24
(29,322 posts)Just my suggestion.
flvegan
(64,406 posts)However you all want to do it. I'm just along for the ride, as others do the hard work.
InternalDialogue
(3,829 posts)I prefer to pick against the spreads, for what it's worth. I think it's the thing that makes all the out-of-range games become interesting picks. I'd like to keep them, but I'm in no matter what the group decides.
