Robert Griffin III of Washington Redskins not told by Dr. James Andrews to re-enter game

Dr. James Andrews told USA Today Sports that he didn't clear Robert Griffin III to return for four plays against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9 when he sprained his knee as Mike Shanahan had told reporters after that game and that he's still worried about the Washington Redskins quarterback's knee, even though he has been cleared to play.

When asked why he risked Griffin's long-term health by letting the quarterback return to the game, Shanahan had said he only let Griffin return after he got the OK from Andrews, who was on the team's sideline.

"He's the one that gives me that information," Shanahan said on Dec. 10. "It's way over my head."

<snip>

&quot Shanahan) didn't even let us look at him," Andrews told USA Today Sports. "He came off the field, walked through the sidelines, circled back through the players, and took off back to the field. It wasn't our opinion. We didn't even get to touch him or talk to him. Scared the hell out of me."

Shannahan is a douche regarding injured players. I remember in 2003 he sent Plummer back into a game @ San Diego in 2003 w/ a torn shoulder but officially listed it as a concussion so the opposing team wouldn't target. He was fined for that which was also the same week he was fined for packing only the white jerseys, forcing San Diego to wear dark colors in September.

We now have no clear path to the SB. Either the scum choke at Atlanta, putting us on the road, or we have to play (i.e. get guillotined by, again) THEM. This is assuming we don't fail to the Pee-yack.

BUT it was not the QB play that was the problem yesterday. Or did you not see Cousins get flattened. The problem was the offensive line couldn't block shit yesterday. That was obvious even in first half.
So fire Shannahan and hire who? Chip Kelley? LOL he's such a con artist. I know, Andy Reid! Oh wait....How about Cowher and Gruden as Snyder has wanted for years. You know why they even got to the playoffs right? Snyder isn't interfering. But hey, we can go back to Snyder running the team, I'm sure that will work out well.
BTW, same assholes calling for Shannahan's head, are the same assholes who yelled and screamed about the Strasburg shutdown. So forgive me if I don't think "fire the coach" is going to solve anything. Hypocrisy smells so lovely.

On edit: Not sure why no one is blaming RG3 actually. Its obvious from the stories he wasn't about to let himself get pulled. Plenty of blame to go around, but there was no fucking way ANYONE was winning that game for DC.

That's not his decision..it's Shanahan's. And instead of making the tough choice, he gambled with both the Redskins short term playoff chances.. and more importantly, the future of their franchise QB..

to Shannahan. You know that in many cases what the QB says goes. Seriously. Cutler is looked on as a wus because he pulled himself from a game when he said he was injured. Rarely are star QB's pulled agaisnt their will. See Brett Favre's entire career

and I appear to be the only asshole that is calling for Shannahan's head that questioned the logic in the Strasburg shutdown. I may be a hypocrite but in this instance, not directing RGIII (if he is to blame) to see the doctor than lying to the press that he did see the doctor, he should lose his head.

I don't care if Washington fires him or not but should be sanctioned by the league. Coaches like Shannahan are the reason why the NFL is getting sued.

But I guess you don't really give a fuck about the team.
Also this:
Washington Redskins team orthopedic surgeon James Andrews said on Monday that coach Mike Shanahan didn’t fabricate a sideline conversation between the two as they decided whether or not to allow Robert Griffin III to re-enter Washington’s game against Baltimore four weeks ago. Instead, Andrews said the account of the scenario simply got misconstrued.
Griffin sustained a nasty blow to his right knee at the tail end of a run while he directed a potential game-tying drive with less than two minutes to play. Griffin came off the field for one play, and then re-entered, taking four more snaps, before his knee locked up on him and rendered him useless.

I don't care what Washington does. It isn't my team.

I do favor sanctions such as fines or some kind of monitoring because we know he can't be trusted around players.

Either Shannahan didn't direct or prevented RGIII from seeing Andrews against Baltimore, then lied about it, or he didn't. If he didn't, why did Andrews say he didn't see him and make the call when Shannahan says he did? Andrews must have lied, or he is backtracking which often happens when someone speaks the truth about an organization or someone they depend on such as Washington, in this case, being the organization that signs his checks.

TD: "I can't see."

MS: "That's okay, we'll just fake it to you."

Play worked, though, in that case. In this case, it might have severely compromised RGIII's career. I hope not.

LANDOVER, Md. -- He limped. He grimaced. He ran to the sideline with the staccato gait of a man missing a shoe, pigeon-toed and flashing teeth. By any reasonable standard, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III probably shouldn’t have been upright, let alone scampering across a slippery, painted-dirt field, attempting and mostly failing to dodge large men with bad intentions.

Of course, football is not a reasonable game.

If you want to understand why Redskins coach Mike Shanahan allowed his quarterback to play for most of a 24-14 NFL wild-card loss to the Seattle Seahawks at FedEx Field, despite an obvious knee injury -- and why Griffin demanded as much -- it helps to start with a story. Once upon a time, there was a player at Eastern Illinois, a Division II school as far from the bright lights and big money of professional football as, well, the surface of Mars. One spring day during a practice scrimmage, the player was speared in the ribs, so hard he could barely breathe. He stayed in the game. Went home. Urinated blood. Began throwing up. He went to the emergency room, where doctors couldn’t figure out what was wrong -- because his ruptured kidney had been jammed behind his spine. The player passed out from the pain. His heart stopped. He was revived with a defibrillator. A priest administered last rites. Following kidney removal surgery, his football coach told him he would never play again. He was lucky to be alive.
He responded by petitioning the school to be allowed to suit up.

The player’s name? Mike Shanahan.

the Shannahans game plan entirely different for Cousins vs. Griffin. Cousins coming in probably wouldn't have worked as he couldn't run well those plays. And Kyle Shannnahan isn't known for his on the fly adapation of his calls. I've never been a big fan of them as coaches actually. But putting Cousins in wasn't going to save DC.

They should have just used that Faux Grass they use in Baltimore. That grass still looked good during the game!
