Report: Robert Griffin III’s Knee Requires “Total Reconstruction” Surgery"..

Though an initial report suggested Robert Griffin III had partially torn both the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and lateral cruciate ligament (LCL) in the world's-most-talked-about right knee, ESPN's Chris Mortensen now says sources are telling him the damage is in fact worse: Griffin actually sustained a total tear to both ligaments, and he will undergo reconstructive surgery in just a few hours.

The good news? That six-to-eight month timetable does mean Griffin could be ready for September's season opener, provided he doesn't endure a setback.

If I were a Redskins fan, I'd be pissed. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

1. My questions:

did playing RGIII after the Raven's games exacerbate the injury? My guess is yes.

Another: If Griffin sits, do the Redskins miss the playoffs? Again ... yes.

So was it worth it, Mike? One wildcard game?

First there's the obvious risk to RG3's career. Then, after he reaggravated the knee late in the 1st quarter, he was so hurt that he became completely unproductive..accounting for less than 50 total yards from that point on until he went down for good late in the 4th.

Shanahan not only put his franchise QB at risk, but his stubbornness denied the team a chance to win..He went with Kirk Cousins when RG3 was originally hurt in the Ravens game and he brought the Redskins back for a win..it's difficult to understand why he didn't turn to him on Sunday..

There are now two paths for the Redskins, the smart path and the dumb path.

The smart path is to acknowledge that RGIII cannot be the same player that he once was. He has to re-tool his game, and the Redskins have to re-tool their entire offense. They should sit RGIII for the entire 2013 season, or most of it, and re-tool the offense around Kirk Cousins. If KC is remotely successful, they can trade him and get back some their picks for 2014. By 2014, RGIII should be ready to go.

The dumb path would be rush RGIII back as soon as possible with the thinking that Adrian Peterson did, then so can RGIII. That would be incredibly stupid. They cannot run the exact same offense ever again because defenses would know that one shot on RGIII's knee, and he's done for good.

As a 'Skins fan, I am upset, but if they don't take the smart path, then I'll be livid.

Having had reconstructive ACL surgery myself, I fear he will be a lesser player in the future. Shanahan better draft some O-Linemen.

IIRC, this is not the first time he's going under the knife (he had a surgery while he was at Baylor)
