Strained foot, Bochy says up to a week....Seems as if all the good luck they've had over the last few years has run out.

Fuck ... that kills them.

I think that fucking world baseball classic was a big mistake.

Jeremy Affeldt ... strained right oblique. Returned from the D.L. a few weeks ago.

Santiago Casilla ... D.L. (Knee cyst)

Angel Pagan ... right hamstring bursitis

Pablo Sandoval ... Strained foot (he was playing really well, but the last week really slowed down).

Marco Scutaro ... leads N.L. 2nd baseman with 9 errors

Ryan Vogelsong ... 7.19 ERA

Sergio Romo appears untouched, but only because he hasn't seen much action lately.

All the injuries. I just don't understand why the Giants allowed a 35 year old who threw well over 200 innings in pitching late into Oct to play in the WBC. Vogelsong is hardly alone in his struggles either. The majority of team USA's pitchers have had a drop off in performance over 2012.

Of course, this doesn't explain what's wrong with the rest of the Giants starters. The team's starting pitching ERA is 4.77..that's 13th in the NL. Ahead of only SD and Milwaukee and just behind the Rockies. Who would have ever thunk it?

Fewer injuries, plus the teams, especially those with lots of MLB players, would get a chance to jell as a team -- something the USA has been particularly lousy at.

Pablo Sandoval underwent an MRI exam today that revealed a strained left foot. He was limping badly in the clubhouse before batting practice and will miss this series at least, but up to a week, manager Bruce Bochy said.

Team doctors are “confident” Sandoval will not miss more than a week,” Bochy said.

“We don’t see this as a DL situation,” he said. “Things coudl (sic) change if he doesn’t respond to treatment.”...

Sandoval is not sure how he hurt his foot. Based on what he heard, Bochy theorized that Sandoval might have slipped on wet dirt on the batter’s box while taking a swing Thursday.

okay, but other than Posey the Giants have stayed relatively healthy over the last 3 years when compared to other teams, particularly in the starting rotation..all 5 starters started over 30 games last year. Perhaps all those innings have finally started to take their toll...

probably because the POS was back down in the minors where he belongs a week later.

Or, is the competition playing them with greater resolve?

What I hear is that the starting pitchers are just missing their targets. Is this fatigue? Mental error? Have they lost the killer instinct? Have they been too routine?
