Sources: Bill O'Brien to coach Penn St.

New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien has agreed to become the coach at Penn State, according to sources.

The Nittany Lions plan to make the move official with an announcement Saturday, the sources said.

Terms of the deal are unknown.

O'Brien interviewed with Penn State on Thursday, his agent, Joe Linta, told The Associated Press.

In his first year coordinating the Patriots' high-scoring offense, O'Brien has also coached star quarterback Tom Brady since 2009. He spent 2008 coaching receivers.

Damn, I wonder if he hadn't yelled at Brady, if Penn State would've even known who he was.

This guy just holds the playlist on Sundays, just like Josh McNutbag did when he was there. Head Coach at Penn State?....What a joke.

Good on O'Brien for stepping up to take on a tough job. He will have a thousand eyes and a thousand critics -- but somebody has to help stabilize and rebuild Penn State. It's a great tradition. The whole thing ought not to go down the toilet with Sandusky and complicits. The students, the faculty, the players need some good leadership now. I hope this O'Brien can provide it.

On a side note, I hope this announcement won't impact the Patriot's collective brainpan as the playoffs get underway. Sheesh. Clipboard holder or not, he is a part of whatever chemistry the Pats have this year -- and that's gotta be pretty damn good, because they are 13-3 with a bye week and home field advantage through the playoffs.

Just maybe, with their eyes on the Super Bowl, the Pats will WIN ONE FOR THE OBIE, or something like that. Love to see a Pats-Packers Super Bowl !!!

At any rate, upon this news I got to give Bill O'Brien a Patriot Pump

Too many people were compromised by the cover up - they need to clean house down to the janitors and secretaries.

And they should do it.

Apparently football is the most important thing at Penn State, though...

I remember all the talk about how Urban Meyer hadn't gotten back into coaching because he was just waiting for Paterno to retire. Then the scandal hits and Meyer IMMEDIATELY signs with Ohio State. There was no way in hell that PSU was getting a big name coach after what happened there.

As a Niners fan, I can breathe a sigh of relief that Greg Roman didn't jump ship.

Not anyone from outside the University, and those already there never had a chance because they want to have a brand new, fresh UNTAINTED face at the helm.

that disaster McDaniels.

It was going to be a tough gig for the next coach, no matter what outsider they hired.
