Yasiel Rookie should have been fined enough after the disrespect he showed the home plate umpire last night to fund the entire Team Picnic, with relatives, including airfare.
He should have sat on the bench tonight no matter what happened, and showing up late to todays game he should have been preemptively been benched for tomorrow's game. Had I been Donnie Baseball, I'd have looked over my shoulder and made eye contact with Yasiel Rookie as I picked a pinch hitter with the lowest batting average I could to go and hit when the obvious choice would have been The Rookie himself. I'd have risked losing tonight and tomorrow in order to show him his place.
Baseball doesn't need Puig. The Dodgers don't need Puig. He needs to know his place in a game that's more than a century old, on one of its most storied franchises.
I'm a Dodger fan, win or lose. I was a Puig fan, even though he was slumping. Last night he showed disrespect for the game and his teammates, and embarrassed Donnie Baseball so much he felt compelled to go apologize to the home plate ump between innings.
Hitting a home run off the bench doesn't make up for that. Juan Uribe should have kicked his ass when he tried to calm him down in the dugout last night and Puig pushed him.
I'm kinda conflicted.
