Speedy releases new trend among NFL quarterbacks
Vic Tafur, San Francisco Chronicle / 9-19-13
We're talking about hot potato, or the speed with which quarterbacks are getting rid of the ball these days. Take Peyton Manning, the first player in NFL history to have nine touchdown passes and zero interceptions after two weeks.
The Broncos quarterback threw the football last year after spending an average of 2.5 seconds in the pocket. It was the second-quickest release to Tom Brady's 2.3 seconds.
This season, Manning has actually improved to 2.48 but has fallen to seventh in the league, according to Pro Football Focus.
Matthew Stafford (2.26 seconds), Andy Dalton (2.28), Carson Palmer (2.33), Tony Romo (2.42), Philip Rivers (2.45) and Aaron Rodgers (2.45) are all faster on the draw.

Further on in the link its reports that when Manning throws the ball in 2.5 seconds or less he has a 139.1 passer rating. Only Rodgers is better at 147.5.
I've always loved to see quick releases in the passing attack.
