Report: Browns name Kyle Shanahan offensive coordinator

The Cleveland Browns have hired Kyle Shanahan as the team’s new offensive coordinator, according to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports 1.

Shanahan was offensive coordinator for Washington from 2010 until he and his father, head coach Mike Shanahan, were fired at the end of the 2013 season.

The Browns hired former Bills defensive coordinator Mike Pettine to be their head coach last week after an extended search.

Shanahan has previously worked as offensive coordinator for the Houston Texans, where he was the youngest OC in league history.

The futility continues in Cleveland.

they're like the Raiders of the AFC North. It has been about 11 years since either team made the playoffs, yet neither one can still get their shit straight, going through all these coaching carousels. The loyal fans of both teams deserve better.

So are the Browns gonna draft another QB for Kyle Shannahan to ruin? What I've heard it was Kyle who really had it in for Griffin...

I find it particularly telling after one official year at the helm that this is the best coaching talent Browns owner Haslam can attract. Former OC Norv Tuner had strong criticism of personnel decisions last year. If I were a potential hire I'd pick up the phone to get the full story from Turner. I can imagine it wasn't pretty.

Sure, new head coach Mike Pettine and Kyle Shanahan deserve a chance. Pettine's built some decent defenses. Shanahan's 2012 offense took them to the playoffs. But their hires are far from earth shaking. Nor do they necessarily signify they'll be able to cleanse Cleveland of 15 years worth of demons.
