The Oakland Raiders will trade a late-round pick in the 2014 NFL draft to the Houston Texans in exchange for quarterback Matt Schaub, a league source told ESPN.
Schaub, who has a $14.5 million salary-cap figure and a $10 million base salary for 2014, became expendable when the Texans signed former Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two-year deal Thursday night.
Not long after Houston acquired Fitzpatrick, Oakland made its final move on Schaub.
The Cleveland Browns had expressed some interest in Schaub, who could have been reunited with former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. But the Raiders wanted Schaub even more, according to a source.

McGloin or Pryor could still yet develop, but they need a starter now.
On edit: Sixth round pick. Good deal.

(10,893 posts)Schaub will end up being another Carson Palmer. The Raiders are too stupid to beef up their O-line. In order for a QB to be successful, they must have protection. I have not heard much from them obtaining more O-line players recently. With the Raiders, he might get some yardage, but he'll no doubt also get plenty of picks.
When will this cycle of incompetence end?

(31,156 posts)$49 million in dead money is off the books. Most of the Al Davis regime is gone. It takes 3 to 5 years to turn an NFL franchise around, maybe longer if starting from rock bottom as the Raiders are. This is year we find out just how good Reggie McKenzie is.
