for Olbermann was cheering wildly for Alex Rodriquez and his beloved Yankees for years..

Here's another opinion:

Olbermann obviously feels strongly about Bonds, as is his right. But I feel like he vastly overestimates how many people agree with his opinion. Or, if they’re generally on board with the notion that Bonds is no good, he overestimates the intensity with which most people feel it. Basically, take all of his categorical assertions about what Bonds did and the conclusions one should draw about him and add an “in my personal opinion” to them for this to be anything other than a baseless rant.

Olbermann is way too smart to not appreciate that Bonds was, PEDs or no, a great player. Or that, no matter what he feels about Bonds, many people enjoyed watching him play and still think of his playing exploits fondly, even if one (a) doesn’t care for the guy personally; and (b) acknowledges that he used PEDs. When he offers blanket accusations that Bonds ruined baseball, that no one likes him and that his performance was totally and utterly fraudulent, he’s being ridiculous and he should know better.

This sort of thing adds nothing to the conversation and it says way more about Olbermann than it says about Bonds.

It's just a game after all. Entertainment. I always thought Bonds was a turd but damn if he wasn't a great hitter and worth the price of admission. Opponents were so scared of him they'd intentionally walk him with the bases loaded. He was going to Cooperstown whether he did drugs or not, all they did was make him stronger, recover from injury faster and ultimately more entertaining, which is his job after all.

People treat sports, especially baseball, as if they're sacred or sancrosanct, holy and pure, when they're no different than going to a movie or a concert or any other entertainment event.

This rant by Olbermann was way over the top, almost ridiculous.

Just like Pete Rose was going to the HOF before he bet on baseball...but then he bet on baseball.

Like you said, it's just a game. But that's the thing about games. They have rules. You follow them and do well, you win. You break them, you lose.

Bonds made himself even better than he was. So did McGwire, Sosa, Clemens and so on and so forth. Big Mac and Slammin' Sammy actually saved the goddamn game with their home run race. Baseball was dead in the water and they revived it. All the players did was make their teams better, themselves better, put asses in seats and were able to stay on the field longer, which is why no one gave a shit about it while it was happening. And everyone knew it was happening. A few years later, all of a sudden, the holier than thou scolds came out and made a big deal out of it. PEDs don't make you hit better, that's a skill you have to have already. They just make you stronger and recover faster. And who wouldn't want their $20 million player on the field as much as possible? It's better for everyone, the fans, the owners and the team.

Pete Rose undermined the integrity of the game by betting. By throwing games to profit himself. Nothing he did bettered the game at all. Those other guys were trying to win championships, he was trying to keep creditors from killing him because he was a scumbag.

Not a single thing that you have said is the way I remember it. From the fans not caring about juicing (except for the home town fans) to Pete Rose throwing games.

Go back to where you came from.

Real nice El Supremo. I guess everyone's supposed to walk in lockstep on this issue or you're just not happy..

Strange, I don't remember any fans complaining about juicing during the Sosa, McGwire HR chase..

Bonds has been singled out, as you regularly demonstrate, and has been the victim of a witch hunt..

Oh, almost forgot...Babe Crawford lives!

It is widly recognized that McGwire and Sosa's home run race beought the game back from the abyss it put itself in with the strike that cancelled the workd series. Fans were staying away in droves after that. You must have a poor memory because baseball was dead after that strike. The race to 62 absolutely brought it back.

No one gave fuck one about the juicing until Bonds started breaking records. And if he wasn't such an asshole no one would have cared about him either. If he had a fan friendly personality, he'd have been inducted in the hall of fame straight off of retirement.

Pete Rose is a liar and a scumbag, what credibility does he have? First he did nothing. Then it was, ok I gambled but not on baseball. Then it was, ok i bet on baseball but not on my team. Then it was, ok I bet on my team but only to win. If you dont think he was throwing games I have a bridge to sell you. That's the one he'll never admit.

So no. I'm not going anywhere and I'm not wrong. Baseball is mere entertainment and there are tons of "cheaters" in the Hall of Fame. I love Keith Olbermann but he comes off ridiculous in his rant and so do the people that continue to piss and moan about this years after the fact.
