No Longhorns selected in draft

The NFL did not draft a Texas Longhorn for the first time since 1937. The streak had been the longest in the country.

The Longhorns and Kansas were the only two teams in the Big 12 not to have a player selected in the draft’s seven rounds. The draft concluded with rounds four through seven Saturday afternoon.

The most shocking snub was to defensive end Jackson Jeffcoat, the Big 12’s defensive player of the year who was projected as a possible third round pick.

Immediately following the draft, Jeffcoat retweeted a comment from his sister, who mentioned that his performance at the combine and stats last fall were better than most players who were drafted. He then added: "It is what it is. Everything will work out."

As consolation prizes, defensive end Jackson Jeffcoast signed a free agent deal with the Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks and defensive lineman Chris Whaley is headed to the Dallas Cowboys.

Hopefully, Jeffcoat and Whaley will show promise for their teams.
