Kluwe: We’ve Reached An Agreement With The Vikings

http://minnesota.cbslocal.com/2014/08/15/lawyer-vikings-reach-settlement-with-kluwe/

The Minnesota Vikings have reached a settlement with former punter Chris Kluwe....

Previously, Kluwe said the team cut him because of his support for gay marriage.

He threatened a $10 million lawsuit if the Vikings didn’t release its entire report on the investigation into special-teams coordinator Mike Priefer.

Kluwe’s lawyer says the two sides settled out of court, those terms will be announced at a joint press conference next week.

Otherwise, why would the team settle and admit to the settlement?

BTW: His numbers don't back up the "cut for performance" thing anyway. He wasn't the league's best, but he was far from the bottom.

It's how patent trolls work when they sue for things like podcasts having episodic content. Yes, somebody has a patent on delivering episodic content via podcasts.

I lost a lot of respect for Kluwe when he admitted that he made jokes about the Penn State child rape scandal, but he did at least apologize for it.

As for why he might have been cut, he was cut for a rookie where he was a veteran, meaning he was more expensive at a position in which there's not a lot of overall difference in performance between players. That said, his numbers didn't drop off much between his last two years on the team.

I agree with all of this. However, even though both sides admit there is no money involved, it isn't about "cheaper".

This is tantamount to an apology from the team which means Kluhe was right.

They were wrong. He was right. The settlement establishes that for me.

No offense to him and I wish him the best, but here are numbers from the two punters (Kluwe and his replacement Jeff Locke). Kluwe was making about 1.45 million to Locke's 450k. I don't see anything in these numbers that would indicate one kicker is 3 times better than another. I'm not disputing why he was fired, just that his on-the-field performance was replaceable.
