Josh Beckett says he's retiring

Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Josh Beckett is retiring, he told MLB.com.

Beckett said he is calling it a career after the Dodgers were eliminated by the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 4 of the National League Division Series on Tuesday night.

Beckett, who was a World Series MVP at age 23 and threw a no-hitter May 25 at age 34, pinned the decision on his health. He needs surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip, with MLB.com reporting the surgery will take place in May.

"I just don't see me going through that rehab and coming back to pitch at this point in my life," Beckett told MLB.com.

If the surgery is successful I wouldn't be surprised to see him return in a year.

He's had quite a few problems over the years...and i don't think he will be back...he seems to lack the drive most players have.

For about a 6 or 7 year period he was one of the more dominant pitchers in the game.
I'm glad the Red Sox had him for a few of them. Still have the unopened Wheaties box with him on it from 2007 World Series. Happy trails.
