Cincinnati & Carolina matchup 3rd tied game since 2012 overtime rule changes

While the first between 49ers & St. Louis was a scoreless tie the other two featured both teams scoring.

3 in 2 seasons after just 17 since 1974 which was the year they included sudden death OT for the regular season.

This new OT is kinda strange as there isn't much accepted conventional wisdom regarding strategy. Would you want to win the toss? Making a FG and forcing the opponent to do the same actually helps them giving them 4 downs (sometimes it is better to be up by 3 rather than 4 late in the game) to advance. Interesting moving the kickoff up in interest of player safety probably would have been an effective measure which eliminated a lot of the big returns but now we have short field & new OT format.

2. Kelvin Benjamin: 'I didn't know you could tie in the NFL'

The best part about tie games in the NFL is that there is inevitably one player on the field who didn't know it was possible.

Back in 2008, it was Donovan McNabb and the Philadelphia Eagles, some of whom admitted to asking team trainers during a game if overtime could end in a tie.

On Sunday, it was rookie Kelvin Benjamin after his Carolina Panthers and the Cincinnati Bengals ended Sunday's contest knotted at 37-37.

"I didn't know you could tie in the NFL," Benjamin told The Charlotte Observer following the game.
