I was involved in a sort of similar situation, but I'll just post this without comment.
And Colin Kaepernick will have no idea.
On Nov. 3, 1987, Heidi Russo gave birth to Colin. Five weeks later, she gave him to the Kaepernicks. Russo is now an established mother and nurse in Thornton, but back then, she was 19, scared and knew the best life for her son was one in a different family.
She's not after his money. She's not suddenly caring about him because he's the star quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. In fact, she asked the Kaepernicks when Colin was 7 to stop sending her photos and updates, because they were just too painful. She cared too much.
Today, she just wants to reconnect with her baby boy.

Kaepernick, over the years, has been extremely private about this issue. Tight end Virgil Green...(his) teammate and (college) roommate...explained, "He just feels like that's who his family is, that's who he's committed to. Maybe one day he will want to meet her. But right now all his loyalty is to the Kaepernicks."
So what does Heidi Russo do? She helps Heidi Russos. She and two other women started Three Strands, a beautiful organization that aids and guides...moms who gave birth but then put their babies up for adoption. "Our initiative is to help raise birth moms up from a place of shame to a place of honor...If they're in a bad situation or environment, there's nothing to help change their trajectory in life. A lot of these birth moms don't have support of their families and friends, especially if they're young."
You're respecting your wishes? How -- by whining to the press? If Colin WANTED to connect with YOU -- even casually -- he certainly could have by now. And you don't want his money -- not even to fund your organization? Then what DO you want from him?

(29,322 posts)Not saying it in defense of Kaepernick we just don't know anything to comment about it.
I have an older step-brother I never met because my dad's first wife took off with the kid and she cut off all contact and prohibited her son from contacting him. My dad would paint this horrible picture of her to show how unfair she was but after 10 years of marriage she could totally see why she did that. My mom didn't do that with me but I never had the desire to contact him. That personal situation shouldn't apply to this as we don't know.
In contrast with the number (and it is a high number) of pro athletes having kids in multiple cities that they don't know or lose count which is barely reported on since Shawn Kemp. The reason additional focus was put on Peterson was due to the death of a child he barely knew existed, the abuse a kid, and the claimed abuse from a different mother of a kid. Lerinart's custody dispute was barely reported by local media and it involved a high profile USC basketball player pulling off a balancing act.

(56,177 posts)She might have, but I tend to doubt it. I have a problem with her going on ESPN for a looooooooooooooooong interview a couple years back...she made a very personal situation very public.

Perhaps he'll want to connect with the half brother at some point though. I think that might be more likely.
