Colts fire coach Jim Caldwell

The Indianapolis Colts fired coach Jim Caldwell on Tuesday, the team announced.

The Colts have called a 4 p.m. ET news conference.

The Colts hired Ryan Grigson as their new general manager last week and the team said they would have a decision on Caldwell's future by the middle of this week.

Franchise quarterback Peyton Manning missed the entire season after having his latest neck surgery Sept. 8 -- a procedure that has clouded his future in Indianapolis. Without him, the Colts collapsed, missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade, winning the Andrew Luck sweepstakes with a 2-14 mark -- and ultimately cost Caldwell his job.

Caldwell was Polian's guy. It makes sense that if Polian goes, then Caldwell would follow. madinmaryland Jan 2012 #12

...just Wow.

While I'm not super surprised about this, this is going to have all the makings of a Brett Favre-ian...is Peyton still welcomed by the Colts...kind of thing going on.

Caldwell and Manning were kind of a package I always thought.

Roman coached Luck at Stanford. He interviewed for the Penn State job too.

Polian and Caldwell would have to be in on it, and if they were, they'd be spilling their guts now.

They may now that they have been let go

But will they spill?? No way. That means that a member of the Fraternity spoke. It will never happen - they would never get hired again

Too many players playing for jobs just for 1 QB to lose theirs. Plus the win against Houston hurt them too much if that was the goal, if the goal was to throw the season they would have threw that game. Like I said, too many players trying to keep their jobs next season to give up.
