Former Teammate Has A Theory On Why RG3 Has Been So Bad, And It Could End His Career

RGIII's biggest problem may be an incurable mental block. Former Washington Redskins tight end Chris Cooley now hosts a radio show on ESPN Radio and recently spent a segment giving a very detailed look at everything Robert Griffin III did wrong during the team's recent loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The analysis, which can be seen in detail in The Washington Post, concludes that RGIII failed at almost all of the basics of being an NFL quarterback including missing basic reads, not seeing wide-open receivers, misreading the defenses, and failing to run the team's offense.

It got so bad that, Cooley says, the coaching staff eventually had to switch to what Cooley called a "Day-One offense," the absolute basics.

It is an absolutely scathing analysis backed up with plenty of details from the game that leaves you shaking your head at the realization of just how bad it has gotten for a quarterback who once seemed destined for greatness but has now been benched.

But after all that, Griffin may actually have a bigger problem, one that could be an underlying cause of the other issues and one that he and the coaches may never be able to fix.

Robert Griffin III has the yips.

1. The Redskins needs to hook RGIII up with a top-notch sports hypnotist

If that fails, they might consider a psychologist; there's some there there that needs to be shoved aside.

2. It's more likely RGIII is just tanking on purpose, in order to get let go or be traded to a better

environment in Oakland, Jacksonville, or Tampa Bay so that he doesn't have to deal with the Dan Snyder Freak Show in DC.

5. Wouldn't blame him. IMO, Snyder neglected his investment. . .

. . .because he was too cheapskate to invest in a better turf for his stadium; turf that had been the source of complaints from numerous players and which ultimately injured Griffin big time the first go-round.

Just my 2 cents.

4. He was among the league leaders in YPA his rookie year

His sample size for this season is too small to draw conclusions for me personally.

I remember Skelton was a head case, he had a quick release, cannon, and has prototypical size. When things were going well, he was a good quarterback. His final season was marked by an injury in the season opener. He was healthy ironically in the same game Kolb suffered a concussion, he completed a clutch pass to Fitzgerald to get in about 60%-70% FG range but Feely missed (I wonder what would have happened career wise if the kick is made and they move on to next week. He threw an interception in OT against the same defensive play Kolb threw an INT earlier in the game. Against Atlanta, Whisenhunt overreacted when Skelton overthrew a wide open Fitzgerald in the end zone, benched in and put in undrafted Ryan Lindley in a game they were ahead with a 4-5 record. Lindley fumbles for a touchdown on his very first play which was the start of the worst QB I ever seen receive so much playing time. After losing a 6-7 game to the Jets he throws Skelton to the wolves in Seattle which was the last game he ever played in.

I feel sorry for young quarterbacks under the development of Ken Whisenhunt, he is back to playing musical chairs at the QB position but his decision to give Max Hall & Ryan Lindley as much playing time as he did. Seems he is committed to rookie Zach Mettenberger and 1st round pick Jake Locker will probably never see the field under a Whisenhunt regime.

Someone pointed out the theory that since Whisenhunt entered the league in the 12th round he has a bias against 1st round QBs in favor of the low round quarterbacks.

On edit - Speaking of Lindley look who is back with the Cards -- http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/11/11/cards-bring-ryan-lindley-back-to-fill-carson-palmers-spot/

Don't understand familiarity with the system comment, Arians offense is very different than Whisenhunt's.

Never heard of any QB's getting them...tennis players, but never QB's. Joel had them at the beginning of the season, but now with the Big 10 West division on the line Joel came up huge for the win. GO BADGERS GO.
