The Miami Dolphins plan to hire Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin as their coach, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
The Dolphins are expected to hold a news conference Saturday.
Philbin interviewed twice with the Dolphins, once on Jan. 7 and again on Wednesday. He interviewed Thursday for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coaching vacancy, a league source told Schefter.
The hiring comes less than two weeks after Philbin's son drowned in a Wisconsin river. After spending a week away from the Packers, Philbin rejoined the team last Sunday for its divisional playoff loss to the New York Giants.

"Two weeks after being touched by enormous personal tragedy, Joe Philbin learned Friday that he will become the 10th head coach in Miami Dolphins history, bringing with him nearly three decades of experience, including five years overseeing one of the NFLs most prolific offenses.
Philbin, the Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator since 2007, was chosen over the two other finalists Denver offensive coordinator Mike McCoy and Dolphins interim coach Todd Bowles. He is expected to receive a four-year contract and will be introduced at a news conference Saturday.
In a statement released by the Dolphins on Friday night, Philbin said he appreciates the chance to coach one of the premier franchises in professional sports. The Dolphins have a strong nucleus to build around, and working with everyone in the organization, I know that together we will return the team to its winning tradition.
