Stoners show they can be jocks at the 420 Games

http://blog.sfgate.com/stew/2015/05/07/stoners-show-they-can-be-jocks-at-the-420-games/

We all know the hack stereotype of the weed smoker: A dude seconds away from his last bong hit, glued to the couch watching “Adult Swim.” Like Brad Pitt in “True Romance.”

But with the likelihood of statewide cannabis legalization coming before voters in November 2016, some image repair is in order. Time to reimagine the weed smoker.

To Jim McAlpine, the transformation begins May 17 in San Jose’s Hellyer Park. That’s where McAlpine, a snowboard company exec, is launching the 420 Games, an athletic competition to show that stoners can run, too. And not just to the fridge.

In a symbolic gesture of stoner logic, the 420 Games will host what a 5K run. Only that run will not be 3.1 miles — which how sober minds measure 5 kilometers. Instead, this 5K will be 4.20 miles.

Alas, Hellyer Park is all the way across town, and poorly served by transit .
