(9,350 posts)It is sad that the military felt the need to pay teams to honor the military. However, it is also sad that sports teams took the money. This is another incident that makes me ask do you not already have enough money. The vast majority of sports team owners are billionaires. Why did they not tell the military to keep their money and use it to help veterans and current military personnel? Also, why did these leagues not reject this money and still honor the military?

(65,008 posts)Not everyone in the military is a hero. So, i was with you until you said "and still honor the military". OK, as soon as they put on the same show to honor teachers, and cops, and firefighters, and nurses, and. . .
The military is not an inherently more honorable organization.
So, everything else you said, i'm on board! How about they don't "honor" the military any more than they honor any other profession, at all.

I am fine with sports teams honoring teachers, cops, firefighters, and nurses. However, I think most teams do honor cops and firefighters. I realize that not everyone in the military is a hero. However, I do not think it is a bad thing to honor the military on military holidays like Memorial Day and Veteran's Day.

(65,008 posts)OK, i can see the actual holidays you mentioned as appropriate. Not that i would be a fan of it, but i sure could understand it.
But, this stuff goes on at some professional game nearly every day. Camo uniforms, flyovers 3 times a year at practically every baseball stadium. Honor guides so somebody can sing the national anthem for the 10 millionth time when most of the people taking off their hats completely forget the last line is "the home of the brave".
So, i'll meet you in the middle. Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Perfectly reasonable.
The rest not so much.
And if they're paid commercials, blech!
