NFL investigating Steelers assistant for allegedly assaulting Patriots fan

NFL security is investigating Pittsburgh Steelers tight ends coach James Daniel for allegedly assaulting and verbally accosting a New England Patriots fan on the way to the locker room before halftime Thursday, according to league sources.

A league official confirmed the NFL is aware of the incident and is looking into it. A Steelers spokesman said NFL security has informed them about the incident and the team is also investigating.

The incident in question occurred before and after halftime of the Steelers' 28-21 loss on Thursday night. Daniel, who was on his way to the Steelers locker room, was seen allegedly kicking a Patriots fan in the back of his leg and yelling at the fan in front of witnesses.

By the time Daniel returned to the coaching booth after halftime, police and NFL security were waiting for him. Once the coach was identified by witnesses, and police approached him about controlling his behavior, Daniel began shouting at the police officer, according to witnesses.

Is there no end to the evil of these Patriots? They clearly made Daniel do that...they forced him to!

Unless it was one of the people the Patriots send out to illegally film their opponents.

Some people are consistently against bad behavior. We aren't okay with cheaters or scumbags just because it's our team.

That said there is also the chance the fan was antagonistic along something like racial slurs in which case in addition to the coach being suspended, the fan should be banned as well.

IF that's the case, I'd hope the NFL gives the coach nothing more than a sternly worded letter.

6. Assaulting a fan is a crime and it's way more serious than cheating at football.

I mean, yeah, the Patriots are big fat fucking cheaters. But it's just a game.

Assaulting a fan (or anyone) is a crime and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

All the Patriots ever did was cheat at football.

As far as penalties that the NFL puts on it's people, which should get the more serious punishment from the NFL? Assaulting a fan or cheating at the game of football?

I vote for cheating at the game of football. That's what they NFL is there to protect. Sure, if he went after a fan, you can fine him and suspend him and he (hopefully) will face criminal charges and likely a civil suit. But if you cheat at football, the NFL can either do something about that or just say they don't give a fuck which makes their rules basically irrelevant.

However, if the commissioner wants to take an NFL employee and toss him out on his ass for assaulting a paying customer, I don't really have a beef with that, either.
