Okay, I'm finally able to dump the "No Perry" avatar since Rick Perry suspended his campaign. Since there are no other significant issues at this time in Texas that will fit in a 48 x 48 pixel image everyone with have to deal with the Southwestern University logo instead. At least it is better than the "This Space For Rent" image that I was tempted to post though and we do have the best varsity lacrosse team in the state.

Cross-posted in the Texas Group.

Baptist, Methodist and Churches of Christ. Is Southwestern (also Methodist) playing all of them? My wife lived in Abilene a long time and considered going to Abilene Christian.

McMurry University is transitioning from Div. II to Div. III so the junior and senior classes are scholarship athletes while the sophomores and first-years did not receive athletic scholarships.

The good news is that Southwestern is ahead 7-6 at halftime. McMurry scored on an interception while SU was still around the their own fifteen, but the defense stopped McMurry on several possessions. Southwestern stopped McMurry on a muffed punt which the punter attempted to throw a pass so we got the ball at the McMurry 15 and drove it in. We did miss a short field goal though. Our RB is a 5"7" guy that weighs about 205 and while he isn't fast he does keep the legs moving so he is hard to bring down.

I'll post an update when the game concludes. The fact that we are holding our own against some better talent is a positive sign though. I do believe that the SU logo does look better than a picture of Captain Ruter who looks like he belongs in a 70s era Castro Street bar with the porn mustache. (The coach isn't short, but the inflatable costume brings Captain Ruter up to about 9 feet tall.)

the minister that started the first Methodist College (Rutersville near LaGrange) in 1840. The Southwestern charter is derived from Rutersville.

By the way, the defense held and we won the game 7-6! Our first road win since 1950. Next week we play East Texas Baptist who lost to McMurry last week.

until after Rutersville had shut down. You know that the Methodists would have nothing to with that.
