Deontay Wilder vs. Johan Duhaupas
Marv Albert is the announcer. I don't know how we got so lucky that this is on regular TV.

(78,249 posts)Usually PBC blankets the intertubes with banner ads well beforehand. The one time I'm away for a few days and return home at 6 PDT (9 ET), nothing. And where was H2O Man?!
Supposedly there is another fight on NBC Sports Net at 11:20 ET/8:20 PT, though.

(73,510 posts)where only you -- and once in a while, one or two others -- notice my essays on upcoming bouts. That's not to say that I don't enjoy talking about the Great Sport with you, as much as with any one .....except possibly this one young lady who sometimes comes to visit me on fight nights ..... but it would be just as well if we simply e-mailed back and forth about fights.
I do still write for a few internet sites, where more people take an interest in the fights. In the past, there was a lot of interest on DU, but those days appear to be in the past.
H2O Man
(73,510 posts)entertaining fight for his home-state fans, and it was certainly the type of heavyweight bout that even casual sports fans would enjoy. Keeping in mind that he is relatively new to the sport, it is to be expected that he might still make a few mistakes -- especially when he was so intent upon putting on a good show for his fans.
Still, I'm concerned that he has begun to make certain errors into bad habits. An obvious example is that he often backs straight out from an exchange, leaving himself vulnerable to getting hit and hurt. Straight back is no way to go. Ever. I can appreciate that it is difficult to teach tall fighters, often the most difficult thing to teach. Manny Steward, of course, was the exception.
Mark (Wilder's trainer) is talented in that area, especially since he was tall, and was high among the greatest amateurs ever (and a champion in the pro's). But next to Wilder, Mark appears "short"! And that makes it hard, for example, when holding the mitts.
I know Mark casually, and have a few common friends. So I've been thinking about talking to him about a couple ways to correct some of those bad habits. Wilder is at the level now where he will pay a heavy price for such mistakes. And there are several other big young contenders working their way up through the ranks ....so that division will be very interesting within two years.
