Andy Dalton and Bengals need to be taken seriously after Seattle win

Andy Dalton brought the Cincinnati Bengals back from a huge fourth-quarter deficit against the Seattle Seahawks defense to win in overtime.

Read that sentence a few times. Let it sink in. We're entering a strange world in this NFL.

Andy Dalton? Against the Seahawks? No way. The Bengals won 27-24 after trailing 24-7 in the fourth quarter, with Mike Nugent banking in the game-winning field goal in overtime off the left upright. The result shines a bright light on both teams. Dalton had 331 yards, two passing touchdowns and one rushing touchdown. Andy Dalton. Against the Seahawks.

When the Seahawks led 24-7, the defense should have closed it out. This is the NFL’s best defense the past few years, it hadn’t allowed a touchdown for two straight weeks, and it had a 17-point lead in the fourth quarter. That didn't happen, though.

Dalton hit Tyler Eifert for Eifert's econd touchdown of the game. Then he ran in for another score. Then the Bengals kicked a field goal at the end of regulation to send it for overtime. The Seahawks offense couldn’t sustain anything to close out the game. And the defense couldn’t get a stop.

I read that last night. I hope a corner has been turned. They look better to me than they have in recent years. Years that they made the playoffs. I almost have high hopes. Almost.

2. I didn't see the game, but I saw the score late and I figured...

Oh well, maybe this isn't their year...wish I had seen it, though, sounded exciting.

I thought the same. I thought early in the fourth quarter, well, so now we know. Same old same old. Good enough to sneak into the playoffs, but can't beat a good team.

It was a great comeback. All the more so because I "knew" it wasn't happening.

Bound to happen with player transitions, injury and age.
