those finicky Santa Clara fans also thought being at Vin Scully;'s last game was more meaningful than a regular season football game

I loved Vin Scully reminiscing about his early days and his Russ Hodges stories. I've heard them a million times, but they NEVER get tired.

Note: Vin Scully was a consummate Giants fan before he ever announced a Dodgers game, so announcing a Giants/Dodgers game was a totally fitting finish to an astonishing career.

they were replaced (for lack of better term) by the "wine and cheese crowd:" those whose luxury suites and club-style restaurants are far more important or fashionable to them than sweating/freezing it out in something as proletariat as a stadium seat. They're also the first ones to jump on the band wagon when it's cruising and the first ones to run when it stalls.

I can't believe I'm writing this, but there's 1000% more football authenticity in Oakland right now than Santa Clara. And that includes management. That's why I think the stands are empty.
