White Sox Fans To National Media: This Isn't City's 1st World Series In 71 Years

https://www.dnainfo.com/chicago/20161024/bridgeport/white-sox-2005-world-series-cubs

As the city erupts with joy over the Cubs heading to the World Series for the first time since 1945, fans of Chicago's other baseball team (yes, there are two) are feeling a little left out.

While many White Sox fans — even team owner Jerry Reinsdorf — have offered their support to the Cubs, others say they'll be cheering on Cleveland when the series starts Tuesday. But there's one thing many of them agree on: the World Series of 2005, which the White Sox won, should be acknowledged.

The frustration on social media was mostly directed at national news outlets, which claimed Chicago hadn't seen a World Series in 70+ years....

Maybe Sox fans are just a bit sensitive. The Cubs have been drawing more fans for decades, even after the Sox won the 2005 World Series. And according to Facebook data, Chicago Cubs fans outnumber White Sox fans in all but five of the city's ZIP codes.

on Southsidesox.com out of boredom, and it was funny how so many of the posters have been rooting against the Cubs. It reminds me of how many A's fans I've encountered online feel about the Giants. They feel resentful for being overshadowed as a neighboring team takes the spotlight and has more success. In both cases, the Cubs and Giants have also outdrawn their respective neighbors, even during down years.

and heard a bunch of the workers gloating. , I thought. Did I somehow wander into a 7-Eleven in Baltimore? Then it hit me. They were Raiders fans.

I hate fans like that. It's low-class, and they give all Raider fans a bad name.

There is a pathology in a large fraction of Sox fans that are passionate Cub haters. They hate the team, the field, the fans, and there is a persecution complex about the attention the Cubs get when they stink.

Been going on pretty much my whole life. I've been exposed to serious Sox fans who don't need the Cubs to be bad in order for them to be happy about their team, but i've more or the other type.
