Woman allegedly conned Heisman winner Ricky Williams out of millions

A former Houston woman who allegedly portrayed herself as an Ivy League money manager has been arrested in New Orleans on charges that she conned NFL player Errick L."Ricky" Williams and other professional athletes out of millions of dollars, according to U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson.

Peggy Ann Fulford, 58, had relocated to New Orleans. A federal grand jury indicted her Tuesday in Houston on eight counts, including wire fraud, mail fraud, interstate transportation of stolen property and money laundering.

According to court documents, Fulford convinced the former Heisman winner at University of Texas that she had studied law and business at a Harvard and had made her fortune on Wall Street buying and selling hospitals and real estate in the Bahamas.

Records indicate she did not attend Harvard nor had she obtained a law license. She posed as a financial adviser and offered -- for no fee -- to manage their money singlehandedly, and use it to pay their bills, including income tax payments and retirement investments. Investigators say that instead she laundered millions of client funds through dozens of bank accounts and used the money to pay her own bills.
