I nominate Chiefs headcoach Andy Reid, for trying to "ice" kicker Ryan Succop on the Titans' game-winning field goal as time expired. Succop was short on the attempt and the Titans would have lost 16-17, except that Reid had called time-out just before the snap. Succop got a rare practice kick: the next one was good to win the game and push the Chiefs back into a wild card playoff spot.
The Raiders once again control their own destiny in the AFC West.

(10,893 posts)HC, I'd never try to ice a kicker. Since most coaches do it, the kicker might be less focused on his first FG attempt and miss it, thinking that he'll have a 2nd chance due to a last-second timeout. I'd want the opposing kicker to only have one shot and no opportunities to improve his next kick.

(64,951 posts)It's an overthinking move that makes us watch the same field goal get kicked twice. I don't watch the game to see extra kicks.

(29,322 posts)He would be a genius, it's just odds. Every coach would "ice" the kicker in that scenario.

(31,153 posts)the kick was a distance of 53 yards, and Tennessee was rushing to beat the play clock. A lot could wrong under those conditions.
