Is Tony Romo worth $10 million a year as an NFL analyst?

According to Michael McCarthy of Front Office Sports, Tony Romo is looking for a contract worth $10 million per year. He makes roughly $4 million under his current deal with CBS, which is the first one he signed after retiring from football to pursue a career in broadcasting. If CBS ends up giving Romo $10 million per year, he would become the highest-paid sports analyst of all time. John Madden currently tops the list, as he reportedly was making $8 million per year when he was still working in the booth.

For reference, Troy Aikman currently makes around $7.5 million per year from FOX. Jon Gruden’s salary with ESPN was somewhere in the $6 million range before he decided to return as the head coach of the Oakland Raiders.

Says what he has to say about a particular play, in a concise manner, then shuts his yap. Unlike others, like Joe or Chris, who feel that people tune in, expressly to listen to them babble away, for hours on end about nothing.
It's almost like the game is secondary to their constant drivel... sorry for the rant... I like Romo, he's hip to who's on the field, how their offenses & defenses run and doesn't feel he needs to fill the airwaves with constant drivel.

Much better than Troy Aikman. I guess every long term Cowboy's QB gets a national broadcasting contract.

He gets whatever his employer is willing to pay.

Living in a vacuum where I don't know what an NFL analyst would make: no.

Living in a world where Troy Aikman is making 75% of that: yes.

At first, hated him; but over time he settled in - as did I. I now kinda like his analysis/commentary. He has fun. Something to be said for that.

With Romo, I feel not only like I'm getting game description, but learning about the game of football as well. Aikman was a great QB in his day, but he doesn't speak of the game from a pro player's point of view (at least not any more--I don't know what his early announcing was like). Romo does, explaining the decisions the QB and the offense in general has to make. I would love to see him paired with someone who would take the same granular view of the defense.

Ah.....NOT. That’s insane.....he’s A TALKING HEAD. He’s sitting in a booth, not playing, not getting hit, he’s just jabbering. JMHO.

Do more people watch CBS football games with Tony Romo than without Tony Romo?

Is that difference worth six million dollars a year to CBS?

If it is, then he's worth ten million a year...to CBS.
