War Emblem has died.

I still remember his win at the Derby in 2002.

He was in retirement at Old Friends in Kentucky.

According to the Old Friends Facebook page, a necropsy is being done.

So very sad.

...at the old Sportsman's Park for the Illinois Derby and the 2002 Breeders Cup at Arlington. Beautiful and regal. He was hard to beat if he got on the lead. Sneaky good sire. Kind of a shy breeder. He only liked to breed chestnut mares. Liked redheads, I guess.

May his bones Rest in Peace. May his spirit live forever.
