30 years old and about to sign his third contract. They’ve got a guy who’s hurt but still on his rookie deal. This was a pretty brutal as you say move.

In the video I saw of him, he acted like a pro but it was evident that he was torn up about it.

Rock solid player.

You forgot about the gel pen!
But, I agree. An unproven cornerback & a 5th round pick. For a guy who is on that tier below Kelce & Kittle.
That seems pretty good for AZ, even if they have to open contract negotiations for Ertz.

Saving salary cap room for players down the road. The team needs to be rebuilt. They're probably thinking by the time they get all their pieces in place Ertz will be past his prime.

It's the stated reason for not negotiating an extension. That was months ago.
I guess this move was inevitable.
