Audio: Saints coach calls for big hits on Niners

sfgate.com / 4-5-12

Former New Orleans Saints defensive coordinator Gregg Williams was recorded urging his players to injure opponents on the eve of January’s NFC Divisional Game with the San Francisco 49ers.

In the three-minute, 33-second clip posted on YouTube, Williams apparently asks players to target quarterback Alex Smith, wide receiver Michael Crabtree and running back Frank Gore.

Filmmaker Sean Pamphilon, who was working on a documentary about the Saints, told Yahoo! Sports that Williams indicated during the speech that he would pay big money to anyone who could hit quarterback Smith in the chin.

“We have to do everything in the world to make sure we kill Frank Gore’s head. We want him running sideways, we want him running sideways,” Williams said, apparently referring to Smith.

“Little 32 (wide receiver Kendall Hunter), we want to knock the (crap) out of him,” Williams said. “He has no idea what he’s in for.”

Then, according to Pamphilon, Williams then said “We hit Smith right there,” and pointed to his chin. Moments later Williams apparently added: “Remember me, I got the first one” and rubbed his fingers together indicating a cash payment, Pamphilon said.

the perp was defensive coordinator Gregg Williams (who, as stated elsewhere, should be permanently banned from the game) not coach Sean Payton.

Maybe if that that asshole Gregg Williams had his players focused on fundamentals like tackling and pass coverage instead of chickenshit attempts to injure their union brothers, the Niners wouldn't have rung up 36 points in that game.

Anybody who thinks that removing exploitation-flick style cheap shots out of the game hinders defense needs to learn to read a fucking scoreboard.
