Late homers help Giants top Padres
SAN DIEGO -- It was part Carlton Fisk, part Kirk Gibson, part Sammy Sosa.
Michael Morse's reaction to his ninth-inning home run was something you'd see in the playoffs. Not in an early July game with a team that had lost 18 of 23.
But he had a good reason for vehemently jumping out of the box with his right arm waving and also pumping his fist during his jaunt around the bases. It was a long time coming - his first homer since June 5 after 90 homerless at-bats.
The Giants beat the Padres 5-3 in 10 innings Saturday, and Morse wasn't the only visiting player to show animated giddiness. Sergio Romo pitched out of a jam in the bottom of the ninth and celebrated as if it was October, and Hunter Pence had one of his over-the-top intense moments after hitting a double to open the 10th.
Everyone in the dugout joined the hullabaloo when Brandon Belt, in his second game after missing eight weeks with a broken thumb, stepped to the plate after Pence's double and snapped the tie with a two-run homer to right field.
